(Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images)On Friday morning, multiple reports suggested former Georgia quarterback Justin Fields finally found his new home. According to the reports, Fields is transferring to Ohio State and is already on campus. It’s a huge addition for new head coach Ryan Day and company as the team looks to compete for a national title in 2019. But what does the new addition mean for current quarterback Dwayne Haskins and backup Tate Martell?Well, it likely means Haskins will leave Ohio State for the NFL after leading the team to a Rose Bowl win over Washington earlier this week. Haskins projects as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the draft after Oregon’s Justin Herbert announced his plans to return to Oregon for his senior season. In late December, Haskins revealed Fields was waiting on his NFL draft decision. “He hit me up earlier. He’s just waiting to see what I do,” Haskins said just one week ago.Expect Ryan Day’s work helping develop Dwayne Haskins into a potential Top 5 draft pick to really resonate with a lot of pro-style QB prospects for #OhioState going forward. https://t.co/A5WFHrpjiq— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) January 4, 2019Perhaps Haskins let Fields know that he plans to leave for the NFL, leading to Fields’ decision to enroll at Ohio State early.Assuming Haskins leaves for the NFL, that leaves Tate Martell as the only true competition for Fields to earn the starting job. Martell hasn’t been shy regarding Fields’ potential transfer, calling out the Georgia quarterback several times over the past few weeks.Another factor at play here is the hardship waiver Fields is hoping to gain. As a transfer, Fields would have to sit fora year, but he reportedly thinks he’ll earn a hardship waiver and be granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.Several complicated factors are at play here. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out. Meanwhile, we’ll await word from Dwayne Haskins regarding his NFL future – a decision that could throw a wrench in Fields’ plans.last_img
