#HealthFeature: Six Benefits of Getting a Dental Cleaning

first_imgPLANTATION, Florida – Brushing and flossing are great dental habits, but sometimes your teeth need a little extra cleaning. Here are six benefits of getting a dental cleaning.1.Prevent cavitiesThe whitish film that builds up on your teeth is called plaque and is the leading cause of tooth decay. This acidic substance eats away at the tooth enamel and, if left unattended, can lead to cavities. Plaque can be removed by brushing, flossing and dental cleanings.2. Stop tooth lossGum disease, which starts with built-up plaque, is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. As gum disease advances, plaque moves further down the tooth where it can destroy the supporting bone in your jaw, causing teeth to loosen and fall out. Luckily, the chance of this happening to you can be greatly reduced through regular dental cleanings combined with good oral hygiene habits.3. Brighten your smileDrinking coffee, tea and wine or using tobacco can stain your teeth. A dental cleaning can remove built-up stains and leave you with freshly polished teeth. The result? A whiter, brighter smile!4. Freshen your breathGood oral hygiene is the best way to prevent persistent bad breath. Even if you brush and floss regularly, getting a cleaning is a great way to keep your mouth healthy and odor-free.5. Boost your overall healthStudies have shown a connection between oral and overall health. Regular dental cleanings may help lower your risk for some diseases, like heart disease and stroke. Many medical conditions, some of them life-threatening, can be detected in their early stages by your dentist during a routine oral exam.6. Save moneyGet the most value from your dental benefits. Some Dental plans have low or no copayments/coinsurance for dental cleanings and oral exams. If you take advantage of your benefits now, you may be able to save money in the long run by helping to protect your oral health and potentially avoiding more costly and extensive procedures.Dr Sharon Robinson, DDS, owns and operates the Dental Place in Plantation, Florida, with a second office – the Dental Place Cosmetix Spa in Kingston, Jamaica. Hallandale Beach CRA Creates $500,000 Stimulus Program to Assist Local Small…

first_imgBusiness Employment Bridge LoanThe Business Employment Bridge Loan is a forgivable bridge loan designed to work in conjunction with other federal and state programs in order to provide a direct cash incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll. Under this program, businesses are encouraged to rehire those that they may have previously laid off. The program is an acknowledgement of the challenges that many businesses have with accessing funds at the federal and state levels due to the extremely high amounts of applications that are being received by agencies associated with those entities. Businesses that apply for and receive the funds, are required to prove that they have applied for various Federal and State loans. Additionally, the CRA has added an innovated component to the loan which requires those receiving the loan to pay a living wage to their employees, and, if the business happens to be a restaurant, food that would normally be thrown away at the end of the night must now be donated to a local shelter or food pantry as a part of the CRA’s Zero Food Waste program. The Coronavirus Small Business Sustainability and Recovery Loan Program is comprised of two separate loans, the Business Employment Bridge Loan Program with loan amounts up to $50,000, and the Emergency Business Cash Infusion Program with amounts up to $15,000.  Both loans are available only to those businesses located within the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Area (CRA). In accordance with Florida Statute 163 Part III, the loans are not available to businesses outside of the CRA. The goal of the program is to provide businesses located within the CRA area with immediate financial relief to avoid temporary or worse, permanent closure.  The HBCRA Board will vote this Wednesday, April 15, 2020, to approve the Coronavirus Small Business Sustainability and Recovery Loan Program. According to Dr. Jeremy Earle, the Executive Director of the CRA, as well as an Assistant City Manager, “the CRA is taking an innovated step in ensuring that, not only will a local business receive the financial help that they need during these challenging times, but that the employee is also paid a fair wage.  Additionally, the CRA wants to ensure that, where it can influence the process, restaurants that would typically throw food away at the end of the evening would now be required to donate that food to a shelter or pantry as a part of the CRA’s Zero Food Waste Initiative. The initiative will help to feed the increasing numbers of those who are facing food insecurity.” Emergency Business Cash Infusion LoanThe Emergency Business Cash Infusion Loan is a partially forgivable bridge loan, designed to work in conjunction with other federal and state programs in order to provide a direct cash incentive for small businesses to help them through this challenging period associated with the Coronavirus pandemic. The program is an acknowledgement of the challenges that many businesses have with accessing funds at the federal and state levels due to the extremely high amounts of applications that are being received by agencies associated with those entities. The Loan program provides funds up to $15,000 and is available to be qualified for-profit small businesses including, sole proprietors, partnerships, corporations, and limited liability companies, that as of March 9, 2020, had been in business within the CRA for at least one year. Qualified small business applicants must be an employer business with between 2 to 100 employees. The loan has a maturity of 18 months at an interest rate of 0%. Only one loan may be made to eligible businesses. The interest rate will be interest-free for a period of 18 months if payments are made on time. The loan may be forgiven for businesses who apply for loans less than $5,000 The program provides a bridge loan of up to $50,000, and is available to be qualified for-profit small businesses including, sole proprietors, partnerships, corporations, and limited liability companies, that as of March 9, 2020, had been in business within the CRA for at least one year.Qualified small business applicants must be an employer business with between 2 to 100 employees. The loan has a maturity of two years at an interest rate of 0%. Only one loan may be made to eligible businesses. The interest rate will be interest-free for a period of two years.  The loan will be fully forgiven if the funds are used for payroll costs, interest on mortgages, rent, and utilities (due to likely high subscription, at least 75% of the forgiven amount must have been used for payroll). Loan payments will also be deferred for six months. Personal guarantees are required. Coronavirus Small Business Sustainability and Recovery Loan Program details: Hallandale Beach, FL – The Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA) has created an innovated $500,000 stimulus program to assist local small businesses in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. The Coronavirus Small Business Sustainability and Recovery Loan Program was created to address the extremely challenging times associated with the Coronavirus, including the closure of local businesses and the layoff of countless numbers of employees. With the specter of a collapse of our local economy in mind, and a possible increase in slum and blighted conditions, the HBCRA has developed these programs which are designed to work in conjunction with state and federal business disaster recovery programs that have been developed, approved and implemented over the past month. Application Period: April 15th, 2020 through September 30, 2020 contingent on the availability of funds. For more information on the Coronavirus Small Business Sustainability and Recovery Loan Program visit cohbcra.org or contact the HBCRA COVID-19 Hotline at 954-787-2055last_img read more

Jamaica Prepares For June 15 Reopening With New Safety Protocols

first_imgAfter June 15, all visitors and Jamaicans arriving in the island will be tested for COVID-19. This is a reversal of the initial decision that was taken by the Government for tourists to only submit to voluntary testing. The Jamaican government worked closely with international partners to develop the public health-focused tourism protocols, which were designed based on benchmarks globally to include nearly 20 markets in the Caribbean, as well as global health agencies. Protocol development also included extensive consultation with local government agencies including Ministries of Health & Wellness, National Security and Foreign Affairs as well as private sector, unions, and international partners within and beyond the tourist industry including the World Travel & Tourism Council, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The World Bank, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and development finance banks. Through June 14, Jamaicans returning to the island will undergo temperature checks and a screening with public health officials. They will need to quarantine at home for 14 days and monitored with phone or wristband geofencing. Jamaica has announced it will reopen its borders for international travelers on June 15.  The country is currently repatriating 8,000 Jamaican nationals who have been stranded overseas due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions. Additionally, an extensive set of operational protocols were announced, including health screening before entry and upon entry, which will be implemented to manage risks to workers, communities and travelers.  From planning the trip to enjoying the destination, the protocols address all stages of the visitors journey, incorporating the lifecycle of prevention, detection and response. center_img “Tourism is the lifeblood of our local economy, and with the help of international experts and a dedicated task force, we have developed protocols that allow us to safely reopen our borders,” said Donovan White, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “We are confident that as we restart our economy, Jamaicans will work together to ensure a safe, secure and seamless experience for our tourism workers, their families, and visitors, while preserving the authentic experiences travelers seek when they visit our shores.” Safety is paramount to a resilient and sustainable tourism sector. As the nation’s largest economic engine, Jamaica’s tourist industry employs 130,000 workers, and impacts an additional 120,000 jobs from other industries (water, agriculture, power, among others), fueling more than one third of the country’s economy. Jamaica’s health and safety protocols will be revisited every two weeks, which is consistent with the government’s approach of evaluating the COVID-19 global situation. As more is discovered about the virus including medical advancements or as the risk profile changes, Jamaica will make any necessary and appropriate revision to the protocols.last_img read more

Finally! Lehmann Reveals What He Did After He Was Sent Off In The Champions…

first_imgFormer Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has finally disclosed what he did in the aftermath of his sending off during the North London side’s 2-1 loss to Spanish giants Barcelona in the 2006 UEFA Champions League (UCL) final.Lehmann was given his marching orders in the 18th minute and that eventually had a huge impact on Arsenal’s output as their 10 men failed to hold on against Frank Rijkaard despite taking the lead through Sol Campbell. The former Germany international goalkeeper revealed details of what he did after his sending off in his new autobiography ‘The Madness is on the Pitch’. Lehmann wrote:“Four minutes past nine, the infamous moment had come: Ronaldinho played his pass, Eto’o began to run, Lehmann grasped, [referee Terje] Hauge blew his whistle.“Following the dismissal, I slunk into the dressing room to put on a clean shirt. What was I to do now? For a few minutes, I sat around, irresolute, before climbing up the steps to the stands.“I bumped into Sir Alex Ferguson, who stared at me wide-eyed, as if he had seen Lucifer himself. ‘Bad luck,’ I said with a shrug, continuing on my way.“When I had eventually found a seat, I was joined by Lasse and Mats [his children], who had been sitting with my wife and brother. I pulled them onto my lap and finally began to tear up.“There is no apt description nor any solace for this moment, in which all aims, hopes and ambition of the previous months disappear in a black hole of disappointment.“I suspected I would never again be part of a Champions League final but did not let the thought get to me at all.” he further added.RelatedArsenal Confirms Jens Lehmann ReturnJuly 18, 2017In “England””Scared” Gattuso On The Brink After Napoli Lose 3rd Straight GameJanuary 19, 2020In “Italy”BREAKING: Petr Cech Announces RetirementJanuary 15, 2019In “England”last_img read more
