As Dead & Company’s summer tour winds down, the band is really pulling out all the stops for the fans. Now in their home state of California, the group hit the Irvine Meadows in Irvine, CA to give fans a seriously smokin’ performance. From the opening notes of “Cold Rain and Snow,” the band was locked in, with John Mayer and Bob Weir playing off of each other to perfection. With tracks like “Jack Straw,” “Bertha,” “Black-Throated Wind,” “Loose Lucy,” “Big Boss Man,” and “Mississippie Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” the band kept things loose and bluesy during set one. The biggest surprise of the night came during the middle of the second set, when the band welcomed out The String Cheese Incident percussionist Jason Hann during “Fire Of The Mountain.” Hann would stay on stage for “Fire On The Mountain,” “Dark Star” and “Drums,” joining the Rhythm Devils section with glee. Hann and Oteil Burbridge have collaborated in the past, and their reunion was quite fruitful on the Dead & Company stage. After the “Drums/Space,” the band segued into “The Other One,” “Stella Blue,” and closed out the set with “U.S. Blues.” A double encore of “Johnny B. Goode” and “Brokedown Palace” ended the show in style.Check out some video highlights, a gallery from photographer Brandon Weil, and the full setlist below:Dark Star (via Sal Paradise)The Other One (via LoadOffAnnie)
The FDA is warning that an ingredient in weight loss and energy supplements could cause miscarriages.According to the warning issued this week an ingredient called vinpocetine that is being marketed for weight loss, energy, and brain function, may cause a miscarriage or harm to the fetus. The synthetically produced compound is often listed as “vinca minor extract” or “periwinkle extract.”“These findings are particularly concerning since products containing vinpocetine are widely available for use by women of childbearing age,” the FDA warning stated. “That’s why today we’re advising pregnant women and women who could become pregnant not to take vinpocetine.”The FDA is advising that dietary supplement manufacturers “evaluate their product labeling to ensure that it provides safety warnings against use by pregnant women and women who could become pregnant.”
“He (Alonso) played here three or four years ago, he was at Bolton. He’s a lovely footballer, absolute quality, he has got a great left foot,” Redknapp told BT Sport.“His delivery is top class, he always looked very composed, he suits the system.“Moses was going nowhere in his career, suddenly in this system he has blossomed, he has been fantastic.”Former England manager Glenn Hoddle echoed Redknapp’s views about Moses and Alonso.“Him (Alonso) and Moses, at the beginning of the season people weren’t too sure about the wingbacks, but they have proved themselves.“Alonso has that lovely left foot balance. The number of times they change the play, he is out there all the time. The diagonal pass is always in play.”Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram Former West Ham United and Portsmouth gaffer, Harry Redknapp, has heaped plaudits on Chelsea Manager, Antonio Conte, for allowing Nigerian star, Victor Moses, to blossom. The Super Eagles forward spent the previous three seasons on loan at Stoke City, Liverpool and West Ham United after failing to establish himself as a regular with the Blues. However, Chelsea’s switch earlier this season to a 3-4-3 formation has allowed Moses to thrive as a right wingback, while Marcos Alonso has also benefited on the other flank.

WESTERN BUREAU: THANKS to goalkeeper Amal Knight, UWI FC won their first away game in the 2015 Red Stripe Premier League season, a commanding 3-1 victory over FC Reno at Frome Sports Complex yesterday. Knight was superb in goal for UWI, pulling off no less than five fantastic saves – without which the home team would easily have won the fixture. In between his spectacular performance, however, UWI grabbed the lead against the run of play when Patrick Brown toe-poked home his effort from the top of the area in the 15th minute for the opener. Forward Girvon Brown then took his chance to score his eighth goal of the season, making it 2-0 in the 40th minute from the penalty spot, before second-half debutant Anthony Grant netted in the 72nd minute. FC Reno replied through substitute Alburn Facey, who tucked in his effort after Knight had saved brilliantly off a sizzling free-kick from Roshane Sharpe. “I am really pleased with my performance and that of the team today. I think it was an excellent performance from the team on a whole,” said Knight. “We have been playing good football since we have settled in the League, and now we are looking towards greater things,” he said. Knight told The Gleaner he believes UWI can challenge for a place in the final four and that it is not beyond them to believe or show they can do so. “With the table congested the way it is, I believe we stand a great chance if we remain consistent,” he stated. FC Reno, meanwhile, are still searching for goalscoring answers after another sub-par performance. However, they could be in for some good news after club officials revealed that top striker and last season’s Golden Boot winner, Craig Foster, will be making his way back to the club. Coach Michael Graham said Foster’s return and some January signings will help rejuvenate the club, which has lost four of their last six matches.

Aston Villa boss Smith: Players sorted out Mings, El Ghazi incidentby Freddie Taylora month agoSend to a friendShare the loveAston Villa manager Dean Smith has played down an incident between Anwar El-Ghazi and Tyrone Mings. El-Ghazi appeared to throw his head at Mings, who yelled at his team-mate for being out of position in Monday’s goalless draw with West Ham United. On the incident, Smith said: “I didn’t need to [intervene], the players dealt with it. That’s the group of players I’ve got. There’s a great togetherness and team spirit in the dressing room.”Looking at it, he went over the edge a little but I’m happy for the players to do that. It was a bit of a heat of the moment, that will happen.”That’s the end of it. It got dealt with very quickly, it’s a team sport. It happens. At half time they shook hands and did their best for their teammates in the second half.”No it’s not a concern. [El Ghazi] has got a little bit of red mist in him like most professional players have.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your say
Twitter/@TDeck68Ohio State hasn’t been shy about celebrating its accomplishments under Urban Meyer, and this year after winning the national championship they put up a street sign on campus that reads “The Undefeated Way.” OSU offensive tackle Taylor Decker drove by the sign after workouts on Friday morning, and seems inspired to get another sign put up in 2016.Was driving back from workouts and saw The Undisputed Way street sign….goosebumps, but the preparation for next year has already begun— Taylor Decker (@TDeck68) February 6, 2015The sheen of this season’s victory definitely hasn’t worn off in Columbus, but expect the Buckeyes to come out as focused as ever in the fall.
